One of the many beautiful paths in Ramat Beit Shemesh where we live – a sun-filled city where snug buildings meet nature.

This is the first in a series of three paintings. The theme “Outside, Within” relates to man as a spectator in this world, both as a part of it and apart from it. The wilderness in which one may find oneself is both formidable and inviting, and as a reluctant participant, one has little choice but to move forth in the spirit of discovery and faith and to uncover the beauty of the moment.

The second in the series “Outside, Within”, this work is an exploration of man’s place within the context of the world around him, as a spectator in this world, both as a part of it and apart from it. The figure appears to be either wandering or lost, through a tame wilderness that is beautiful, busy and constant, which I enjoyed exploring through my brushwork.

The third in the series “Outside, Within”, this work is an exploration of man’s place within the context of the world around him, as a spectator in this world, both as a part of it and apart from it.  The figure seems poised either in contemplation, appreciation of her surroundings, or in fear of the unknown lying ahead.

A peaceful, golden summer afternoon. Three cousins are quietly absorbed in their creations. Warm light fills the room from behind, where it is cooled by the interior. And thus a moment is caught forever. Inspired by Pierre Bonnard’s vibrant and memory-filled interiors.

These paintings delve into the concept of “Spirit and Form,” illustrating the harmonious union between body and soul, and the radiant inner light inherent in each individual, deserving of preservation. It emphasizes the delicate equilibrium between these elements, akin to a graceful dance requiring precision and elegance. Additionally drawing inspiration from the Judaic belief of the higher soul hovering above the individual’s head, evident in the halo-like effect depicted in the second painting. 

Influenced by the allure of nature and scenic landscapes during the lockdown period, I endeavored to adopt a more relaxed brushstroke technique and enhance the vibrancy of my palette in this piece. Drawing inspiration from my husband’s two aunts trekking through the sun-drenched trails of California, I aimed to capture the essence of their outdoor adventure in bright and vivid brushstrokes.

Inspired by a photograph capturing a child’s playful innocence juxtaposed against the formidable ocean waves, I sought to depict this scene with a more expressive and impressionistic approach. The concept of resilience amidst challenges resonated deeply with me, as I reflected on life’s journey akin to navigating the vast ocean. This image symbolizes the ability to find joy amidst adversity and embrace life’s ebbs and flows with unwavering optimism.
